St Marys Church Riccall is a mainly 12th Century Church in the centre of this North Yorkshire Village. The Chancel roof covering had come to the end of its life and was in need of re-covering. The project was overseen by the Head of our Ecclesiastical Architecture Team, Alexa Stephens.
Commenting she said: “We have carefully specified the replacement roof covering using new ‘best’ Westmoreland slates to replace the old Westmoreland slates. Where possible we use new slates to keep heritage skills alive and to avoid historic buildings being stripped for their materials. The slate is stunning in colour enhancing the appearance of the roof which is on schedule for completion by the end of February.”
